“Ever since my younger years, I dreamed of living on the water”
We found ourselves wondering what was next after we unexpectedly sold our custom home just prior to the start of the pandemic. Ever since my younger years, I dreamed of living on the water-an aspiration rooted in memories of spending time at our family’s cabin up north. However, with busy teenagers, it was difficult to find time to getaway to the family lake homes 3+ hours away. Our eyes were drawn to something a little closer - also affectionately known as the "urban cottage" - which would allow us flexibility to enjoy lake life when time allowed. As we watched this particular property on the shores of Lake Minnewashta, sit on the market for some time. When the opportunity presented itself, we decided that the old 1915 Sears Robuck kit farmhouse (without heat) could act as a local seasonal cottage as we planned for a long-term plan of redeveloping and living on the water "some day". As the years went by, improvements were made to the property that had been neglected for decades. A dream home was desighned, and the vision of LakeHus began to take shape. We decided that we could spread the lake life joy to others by offering our home as a luxury vacation rental on occasion beyond our personal use. The spaces have been designed accommodate up to 14 ppl comfortably with two spacious bedroom & en-suites, two additional upper level bedrooms as well as a super fun lower level bunkroom. Lakehus offers something for everyone from shuffleboard, poker, reading nooks, sundecks, chess, puzzle, movies, golf, water sports, beach life and gourmet cooking - truly nothing has been overlooked. The property is located just minutes from downtown Excelsior, Lake Minnetonka, and Hazeltine National Golf Club, is within walking distance to The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, and approximately 30 miles from Minneapolis-St. Paul International International Airport.

Just a few obstacles and challenges…
The home is located on a bluff - which created a number of challenges to improve the land and lakeshore prior to construction. Without having reasonable access - we had to crane in equipment and supplies to re-do the rip rap and rebuild a beachhouse that had been grandfathered in due to an existing decaying structure that was taken down by hand piece by piece. A true family affair and labor of love!
